We start the day with a bit of sad news from the world of NASCAR. Hall of Fame Darrell Waltrip and his family announced he is stepping away from public life due to a degenerative cognitive issue. FTD and CTE issues will now force Waltrip out of the public life. We don’t talk a lot of NASCAR here, but I am a huge racing fan and have been fortunate enough to cover a lot of races at Texas Motor Speedway over the years. Everyone in the garage, for the most part is amazing to work with. I got to visit with Waltrip a handful of times and he was great to an unknown reporter from Lubbock who didn’t travel the circuit like the “regular” NASCAR media.

Waltrip’s impact on the sport has spanned from the 1970s was a young, brash driver all the way through his broadcast days on FOX starting in 2000. He great the sport as much as any single person and that includes folks like Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Jeff Gordon or anyone else around the garage. It pains me that someone as gregarious and fun as Waltrip will be silenced too soon.

Aside from that, it’s gonna be a busy day of college and NFL football coming up. Atlanta and Green Bay get it started tonight in the NFL If the Falcons had a QB this might have been a good game. Instead, it’s just a game that’s on TV. That’ll be good enough for tonight. We’ll also get into a little more of the actual match-up between Texas Tech and Sam Houston State tonight. There shouldn’t be much there, but…we’ll find out. Add in the news of the day plus some more details coming out on the latest version of the Protect College Sports Act and we’ll have plenty to talk about.
