Welcome to the column with no name. Three weeks in and it still hasn’t named itself. We’re open to suggestions, so add yours in the comments below and feel free to sound off on our thoughts today!
- Fact. Ludvig Aberg is gonna be the Patrick Mahomes of golf, and already is, for Texas Tech. The cool thing about golf is that Aberg will likely have a much longer impact as a touring pro than Mahomes might have int he NFL. Aberg got his first hole-in-one on the tour today and is right in the mix at the Genesis. Anything Texas Tech can do to leverage Aberg in the coming years the way the University has with Mahomes in KC will be money well spent. Also, the money spent in the world of professional golf targets a great income level demographic. Thank you Ludvig and Greg Sands.
- Even with 3 losses at #6 North Carolina, this is infinitely a better way to start the season for Texas Tech Baseball than playing a bunch of nobodies at home, winning by 15 each game and learning nothing about your team. This will help the RPI much more than three or four easy wins over a bad team. Hopefully “Football Guy” will understand this. This is going to be a solid team. No promises on NCAA Tournament success or a trip to Omaha, but this team is better constructed than any Tech team in the last four years, I believe. We’ll find out.
- I’m old enough to remember when the NBA All-Star Game was worth watching. Now, it just reminds us that for the most part, all major sports All-Star Games could go away and we wouldn’t miss it. Just take a couple of days off from the road and call it good. The MLB All-Star Game is the only thing close to being a real game, and even that has been compromised over the years. What would I replace All-Star Games with? Nothing. Sometimes, less is more.
