5 Things We Know On A Sunday
- Fact. Huey Lewis and The News is one of the most underrated rock bands of the 1980s. A big and powerful sound that was getting more and more rare then and impossible to find today. All of their music stands up 40-plus years later. And yes, it’s still hip to be square.
- The Power of Advertising is still strong. I nearly caught myself going by McDonald’s the other day to order their new “Arch Burger”. Yes. Because the Big Mac is no longer Big Enough for Big Americans. When I realized it was just a souped-up Big Mac; I was able to suppress my odd desire to go in and try it. It goes to show though that even the strongest of us can still succumb to the siren song of advertising. . . Stay vigilant out there and get some local Mexican Food or something!
- I’m for strong borders and sending anyone out of America who isn’t here legally as much as anyone. Have we also considered the idea of deporting about 100 U.S. Senators for a while and see what we can get done in America? I have a few destinations they could spend a little time if if anyone is interested.
- Every community has its albatross. Some have more than others. For the citizens of Lubbock County… your albatross has been and will be the Lubbock County Expo Center. By the time the New Loop To Nowhere gets finished, politicians yet born will still be dealing with this boondoggle. The only hope is to blow it up completely, start over with new leadership and then see what can be done. The harshest reality is that nearly a decade later, the citizens of Lubbock County don’t seem to be suffering all that much without the proposed center. That should tell you something….
- I intend to clean out the inside of my truck later today. Key word, “intend”. If it comes to pass, I’ll report back next week on what interesting things I find inside my truck. Is there currently a wheelchair folded-up in my back-seat area? Yes. Yes there is. And that won’t make the Top 5 of Interesting Things I Find. If you have a truck, you understand. What’s the point of having a big truck if you can’t lose and find things in it all the time!
