Happy Monday, Y’all !
One week ago today, we were going into Big 12 Media days in Frisco. Commissioner Brett Yormark had yet to speak. Coaches had yet to talk. Monster Deals had yet to be announced. The national media had not made their way to the metro-mess to see what the 2026 version of Big 12 Football was gonna look and sound like.
Fast-forward to today. One week later.
After all the interviews, columns, stories, soundbites and more… if the Big 12 better and stronger as a league today or weaker and worse than before last week?
If the answer is worse, it begs the question why?
The answer is simple.
Brett Yormark.
The man who helped save the Big 12 and helped keep the Big 12 from becoming the Pac-Whatever… and yes, he’s that guy and played a massive role, is also perhaps staying too long at the party he started. We’ll always give Yormark credit for holding the league together, bringing in new members – some of whom actually brought value to the league like Houston in basketball and BYU in football – but Yormark is also the guy that for the last year has created enemies where he needs not create enemies.
And yes, we’re talking about Lubbock, Texas.
So, after watching all you watched last week…where do you think the Big 12 is right now? United? Strong? Well led? Is it a league poised to move forward or are we seeing foundational cracks around the conference when it comes to direction and what schools are willing to do to succeed in the new era of college sports?
And yes, we’re talking about the blowback Texas Tech has gotten over the past two years in the NIL and Investing front of college sports.
