Happy Wednesday, Y’all !
Two ranked teams, two of the Big 12’s best on a national stage, didn’t disappoint Tuesday night in Houston with Texas Tech and Houston putting on a back-alley brawl worthy of March in early January. Houston held off Texas Tech 69-65 on a night each basket was challenged and hard to get. As it should be.
Texas Tech didn’t win, but showed that even still down several components to this team that it is going to be a force in the Big 12 this season. That said, Texas Tech hopefully took away a few lessons Tuesday night. Mainly, 3-point shooting will only take you so far against great defensive teams like Houston. Shooting 32 percent and taking 28 3s ain’t gonna get it done. That and on the biggest stage, you’re going to have to have Christian Anderson show up like he did the second half vs Duke. That player wasn’t there Tuesday night, scoring just 7-points in 40 minutes. 7 assists are great, but he’s got to score and 1-5 3-pointing shooting ain’t it…. All in all, a great effort by Tech and a night that made the team better; but they’ll have to pick that win up somewhere on the road now in a rugged league. The Big 12. Love it.
We’ll talk about that tonight plus another huge day of Texas Tech Football hauling in high-rated players in the portal on The Daily Broadcast. What If Wednesday
Each Wednesday we go down the road of alternative history and ask the great What If Questions in life and sports. History can change on a dime. We give you the change-moment and you tell us how things would have turned out different with different choices or decisions.
This week, let’s take a look at college basketball.
What IF, the NCAA never adopted the 3-point shot in the mid-1980s?
Sure, it sounds crazy, but what if the NCAA experimented with the 3-point shot like several conferences did and then decided it wasn’t for them? What if they decided to stay away from the NBA rule and just go with a shot-clock and call it good? Would the game be better or worse today? It’s hard to imagine, but that’s what What IF is all about. A good example of this would be several clock-rules in football that college has been far too slow to embrace over the decades. Or the hash-marks. You get the idea. So fire away in the comments. Would college basketball be better, worse or the same product today without a three-point shot?
