5 Things We Know On A Sunday

1. Nothing will ever replace rain as the greatest smell on the South Plains and in West Texas. Nothing.
2. Never underestimate the power of little kids to influence buying decisions of their parents at a grocery store. I love to see it these days. Mainly because I’ve got no young child in my life and that I’ve been there and bought that box of cereal that I knew my son would never eat! But we bought it. Now, the question becomes… Am I that little kid talking myself into buying things at the grocery store… that I may or may not ever eat… ? Answer. Yes.
3. It’s more than OK to admit that one of the reasons we love The Masters is that it is elitist, it does enforce decorum and you’ve got to dress right and leave your phone in your truck. In fact, we probably need to embrace this in more places in our lives; not just some golf tournament that has pretty flowers and cheap pimento cheese sammiches. The Masters is telling us something in 2026. Pay attention and create more of that in your life. Maybe at the dinner table or on the way to school each morning with your kid.
4. You can root for the United States or you can root for Iran. If you can’t figure out which side you want to be successful on any and all fronts; not sure how to help you. Sometimes, it is just as simple as Good Guys vs Bad Guys. We’re the Good Guys. So pay a little extra for gas for a few months or whatnot and get rid of some Bad Guys. Your children and grandchildren will thank you. Just like you should have thanked your parents and grandparents for getting rid of NAZI Germany and Imperial Japan… Throw in ending the Cold War with USSR if you’d like. Make your choice….
5. ‘The Madison” may be Taylor Sheridan’s best work to date. At least since 1883, which we consider the best of the Yellowstone series. It took more than a few years to get it to production and then to air; but it seems to be worth it. No spoilers of course, but if you can’t watch the first two episodes and not get into a few emotions and embrace the characters – with a little bit of your life being reflected on the screen… you haven’t lived much or fished much with your brother… If nothing else, watch the show for some great photography or filmography or whatever they call it when you see something on your screen and it looks awesome!
