5 Things We Know On A Sunday – Tamale Lady Greatness, Better In Black And White, Lubbock Government Compromising Trust, Life Through The Doorbell Camera And Lights All Year

5 Things We Know On A Sunday

1. There may be no better West Texas food than homemade tamales. I’m sure you can get them all around the State of Texas, but the West Texas Tamale Lady is the best. I am wondering this morning what the version of the Tamale Lady is in other parts of the country. Do older women come by an office peddling donuts or pancakes or what? The Tamale Lady has a close rival in The Breakfast Burrito Lady. Sometimes it might be the same woman. But you never see some old woman who looks like she could have worked as a greeter at Wendy’s coming by your office selling cheeseburgers. Here’s to the great Tamale Ladies of West Texas. Keep them safe!
2. They’d never do it, but it would be interesting if someone would make a new major motion picture and film it in black and white. Some movies are just perfect that way. I can’t imagine watching “The Last Picture Show” in color. It would lose so much impact and starkness of the story. If you can think of a movie made in the last 25 years or so that would have been better in black and white, fire away in the comments. I’ll nominate “No Country For Old Men”.
3. I find it very interesting that the citizens of Lubbock County have been paying two people for the same County Commissioner seat for many many months and no one seemed to know about. Legal or not, what else do the folks of Lubbock County not know about how their tax dollars are being used. Trust in government is everything. That trust has been severely compromised by the County Judge, Curtis Parish. So, will voters remember that or are they just numb to the process and can’t be shocked by anything these days…
4. Fact. America would instantly become a better country if more folks sat on their porches in the evenings and visited with their neighbors instead of hunkering down inside their compound, watch the world through a doorbell camera and wondering what so-and-so is up to across the street.
5. If you can start decorating for Halloween in September, I can start decorating for Christmas in October! To that end, it’s interesting how many folks are leaving up their L.E.D. lights all year long and changing the colors and patterns to match the season. I love it. I also wonder if there are H.O.A.s that are going to start banning that or if it’s already happening. Oh ya, be sure and trim that shrub, sir. Don’t want Karen to leave a strongly worded letter on your porch while you’re watching her approach on your doorbell camera!
